Second Life and the Environment

Much has been written lately about the success of Second Life as a marketing tool. Early on, companies couldn’t pile on fast enough to build out their presence in the virtual world hoping that users would flock to their virtual goods and ultimately build brand affinity that would carry over into the real world. Another interesting development is the notion that Second Life can provide environmental benefits as well.

It’s becoming more common for companies to host virtual team meetings in Second Life, saving both money and carbon emissions. Some groups are even using the virtual world to model weather, a useful tool for modeling climate change.
