Chicago-based designer Trevor Oneil used recycled cork and birch to create a stunning sofa that could look incredible, or incredibly wrong, depending on the rest of your décor. The striking piece is essentially backless so buyers should have impeccable posture, or prefer spending time in the horizontal position while relaxing. There isn’t much support for my preferred “sprawl” position.

If you like the look but can’t quite swing the $5,800 price tag, there is a matching chair for a relative bargain at just $1,200.
