Eco-living: Aura at Camelback in Phoenix, AZ
Sustainable living in the desert can be a bit of a challenge (swimming pools and air conditioning are
a fact of life) but the residents of the new Aura development in Phoenix will be able to enjoy green living and a nice bit of luxury. Located in the desirable Camelback area, Aura just opened for lot reservations and at build-out will include 36 townhomes ranging from 2,500-3,200 square feet.
Aura is on track to be the first LEED Silver for Homes certified project in Arizona, will provide 75% of electricity via solar, and include numerous water saving features.

This is just another example of average working people being forced out of the housing market and having to scramble for a place to live. We are not looking for “investments” or such – We are looking for a place we can put down roots, become part of an extended community, maybe even someday raise a family, IOW, a place we can actually call “home”.
The greed and avarice that has been shown in people’s blind quest to make more money will (and indeed is now) come back to haunt………. There are so many homeless or close to being homeless people in this Valley, and so many empty houses here. “What’s wrong with this picture”???????
My prediction: “The Aura”, like so many other high-end, for the wealthy only projects, will remain empty for quite some time, until such a time when developers realize that there is a pent up market for really *affordable* family and working class housing.
Henry Ford made millions of $$$$$$$$ by coming up with the then-novel idea that you will make more money in the long run by satisfying the needs of the so-called “common man”. Before he came along, the automobile was considered “a rich man’s toy” and only the wealthy could afford one. I think some people need to take a few lessons here………..

The only thing positive that I see here is the idea of enviromentally-friendly and alternative energy considerations – I myself have been a proponent of solar energy, wind energy, high-speed mass transit, hybrid, electric, and alternative fuel cars, etc. for years now. My only hope is that some of this consideration and technology will eventually percolate down to the rest of us in some way shape or form……….
