Yellow + Blue Organic Box Wine

Looking like a giant juice box for adults, the packaging for the new Yellow + Blue organic wine will certainly stick out on retail shelves. Rather than going with the conventional wine bottle, the founders of Yellow + Blue have opted for much lighter, and this more environmentally responsible, packaging from TetraPak.

While the packaging may be environmentally responsible, the journey of the grapes from vineyard to retail is certainly not the most efficient. Grapes are sourced in Argentina, trucked to the Chilean coast, loaded on a boat for a trip through the Panama Canal to Montreal, trucked to Toronto for processing, and then finally shipped out to retailers. Sure, this is better than doing the exact same thing using glass wine bottles, but would it not be better to drink wine produced locally? Certainly Napa is much closer than Argentina.
