Pre-Order Itsabelly’s Going Green with Baby

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

This post was originally going to be about Itsabelly, a service to help expecting parents prepare for the arrival of their child. However, I hit their blog and found that the owners of the company are releasing a book about going green with children. The book is set for a summer release but can be pre-ordered by sending an email to Itsabelly.

The book will cover the importance of going green, appropriate products for your baby registry, eco-mom tips (none for pops?), and going green on a budget.

While we’re on the topic, Pangaya is offering steep discounts on organic children’s clothing from Laurenceleste.

Pangaya Winding Down Operations

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

It is with great regret that I announce that Pangaya will be winding down operations. We first developed the notion of a high-end online retailer of environmentally-friendly women’s clothing in late 2003 and launched our online store in the summer of 2004. Since that time we have realized incredible growth, seen the industry mature in a way we never imagined, and had an incredible ride.

However, as with all businesses, the time and capital invested must provide a meaningful return for the effort to be justified. At this time, it simply no longer meets that most basic criteria.

We will continue operating as you have come to expect and will continue to do so until our inventory is depleted. For you, this means savings of up to 80% on your favorite brands. We will also continue to post to the blog.

Your readership and business has been most appreciated and please feel free to post comments or send us an email to corporate@pangaya.com. We promise to read each and every one.

Regards,

-Sean

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to be Printed on Tree-friendly Paper

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Working in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance, Scholastic has announced that the final book in the Harry Potter series will be printed on recycled paper. With 12 millions copies of the 784 page book being printed in the first run, the impact is quite significant.

Detail of the partnership include:

  • Paper will use a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste.
  • Two-thirds of the paper will be approved by the Forest Stewardship Council.
  • A deluxe version of the book will be printed on 100% recycled paper.

High Tech Trash: The Book

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

While investigating river pollutants in Oregon, Elizabeth Grossman found that many of the contaminantsHigh Tech Trash were coming from the tech industry, not the industrial manufacturers that she had imagined. These findings led her to pen the book, High Tech Trash: Digital Devices, Hidden Toxins, and Human Health. Grossman sat down with a writer from CNET in San Francisco to discuss the impact of the technology industry on the environment and (of course) her newly released book.

Alarming Stat from the Interview: Each year 250 million computers are disposed of, yet only 10% are recycled! For more information, read the complete interview at CNET.
